Supporting Content Literacy

In the CSU East Bay course on Content Literacy, teacher candidates learn how to facilitate student thinking and learning with text and materials. The course explores how to support students in using the interrelated skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking to critically assess and use information. Below are three lesson plans I wrote to support student comprehension of an article on the chemistry behind a devastating explosion at a sugar refinery. This course was eye-opening to me, as I learned about how people understand content and the strategies to help students understand content.
